Cobá was once an important Mayan town, and today is the only archeological site in Mexico that tourists can only visit on foot or by bicycle. The remains of the ancient city, including the 'Castillo' and the 'Iglesia' Pyramid, are remarkably well preserved, rising amid the lush vegetation. The area is also home to turtles, crocodiles and abundant fish and bird life. Cobá is located about 150 km southwest of Cancun International Airport and 40 km from Tulum and the Caribbean Sea. The drive from Cancun typically takes about two hours.
