Hotel description
Luxury Riad located in the heart of the Kasbah lovingly restored in French-Morrocan style. Excellent services and cordial reception. This 300 year old riad boasts spectacular views of the sea and the kasbah. A beautifully preserved building true to traditional Moroccan craftsmanship. Decor includes some superb artefacts, particularly from Tetuan, Rif and indeed the world over.
Original patio with lounge areas, fireplaces and library. Its three floors look out onto the interior courtyard where guests can while away a relaxing afternoon, reading, sipping a glass of tea or simply day dreaming. From the plant-filled terraces views of the caidal tents, the nearby Spanish coast and of Tangier, the "White City", can be enjoyed. A library with books predominantly on Morroccan subjects is a wonderful place to learn more about the culture and enjoy smoking the traditional oriental pipe, known as narguile. The Riad's staff can also serve you a refreshing beverage or alcoholic drink as you sit back and enjoy the ambience.
Location
Dar Sultan is located in the heart of Tánger's Kasbah district and is the former home of the Sultan who lived in the Dar El Makhzen Palace, which is now a museum. The Kasbah is also home to all of the official buildings such as the Palace of Justice, Treasurer and the Jail. The Medina and the city centre are mere minutes away. The Riad Dar Sultan also has a free, guarded parking facility 50 metres away.

"We were very impressed and very happy with our 2 nights at this beautiful Riad. We have not stayed in a Riad before, so our expectations were very limited, and what we saw and the service we recieved was nothing but excellent. The owners were very hospitable and were helpful with any queries and requests we had, as well as giving us advise on our next part of our travels through Morrocco. We stayed a total of 7 days in Morrocco and the 4 of us who travelled together have all said that the best meal of all was the meal we had in this Riad. Fantastic place to stay, with attention to detail throughout."

"This was a wonderful oasis in the middle of the kasbah. It was clean, and beautifully decorated with Moroccan furnishings and tschotschkies that provided something interesting to look at in every corner. The ambience was tranquil and a lovely respite from the hectic pace of Tanger. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom spotless. Mint tea on the terrace overlooking the city was exquisite. The staff was extremely helpful and the owner most pleasant. I would stay here again."

"The Dar Sultan is a hotel for lovers, from your first steps through the door until you arrrive in your rose petal bedecked suite, the Sultan oozes attention to detail and warmth. Every bit of the hotel is individually decorated with places to sit and read/ take tea/ or chat on every floor. The rooms are unique with each richly decorated and filled with charm and elegance and love. The on suite bathrooms are excellent, and again very specially laid out. At the very top of the hotel, is the room to die for. Although the room itself is one of the cheaper rooms, it is awesome. As you lie in your bed you can swing the doors open and have a million dollar view of the the whole bay of Tangiers, the port, the mountains & the city all at once. From the private terrace you have a 360 view, whilst you work your way through the breakfast feast. It's a 10 euro taxi ride from the ferry ports, but the taxi can only get you to within a few hundred yards, as the hotel in the Kasbah, and it is quite a steep hill down to the hotel. Anyone with mobilty problems would have extreme difficulty with the Hotel as the stairs are steep and many, but the rewards are high. In closing, all I can say is that if very modern & plush 5* hotels are your quide of luxury, you will probably be disappointed with some aspects of the Sultan. If you want to be made to very feel special and appreciate effort then you ewill love the Sultan."
