• Situated beside 88 kilometres of ski slopes in the unspoilt resort of Les Orres, the impeccable Les Mélèzes d'Or in the Hautes-Alpes department offers a wonderful base for skiing and summer holidays. At a height of 1800 metres, this winter skiing station overlooks Serre-Ponçon lake and the Durance river valley and is renowned for its extensive larch forests. The hotel itself offers the most beautiful view of the valley and its surroundings and provides 134 apartments, each with a balcony or terrace, accommodating from 4 up to 10 people.

In winter, amateur skiers and lovers of winter sports can become acquainted with 88 kilometres of slopes. Other popular activities include treks to the old town of Embrun or to discover the Serre-Ponçon valley. Small children are welcome in the creche or snow garden where a range of activities awaits them. In summer, a blanket of flowers covers the valley and pursuits such as grass skiing, summer tobogganing, archery, mini golf, rock climbing, trekking and mountain biking become popular, as well as paragliding. In the evenings, you can relax in the bar, or enjoy the fitness room and the benefits of the sauna.

• Les Mélèzes d'Or is easily reached by night train on the Paris/Briançon line or TGV to Grenoble, Valence or Aix en Provence. Driving is the best option, people coming from the north should take the motorway to Grenoble followed by the N75 or N85 to Embrun; or the A51 motorway until Saulce, followed by the D942 to Tallard and the N94 to Embrun when coming from the south. For those arriving in a flight, the nearest airports are Marseille/Marignane at 189 km, Grenoble/St.Geoirs at 140 km, Lyon/St Exupery at 200 km and Turin/Caselle at 195 km distance.
