Hotel Relais Châteaux Orfila

Recently awarded the "Most Excellent European Charming Hotel 2008" distinction by the British travel guide Condé Nast Johanssens, this is a wonderfully discreet hotel for lovers of classic luxury. This emblematic building was home of a upper middle class family and became popular in the 20's within Madrid's high society as it hosted many plays and performances in the basement. In 1999 it was rebuilt as a hotel, keeping the stylish atmosphere of the previous century, in addition to adding the comforts of a contemporary luxury hotel. The building still retains its original façade, the carriage entrance and the main stairway of the original mansion.

The hotel has 32 rooms, including 12 suites, remarkable for their tasteful decoration, with époque furniture, painted wallpapers, bronze banisters and polychrome painted marble floors. The Hotel Relais Châteaux Orfila was opened in 1999 and is located in the Orfila Street, in a mansion built in 1886 in the very centre of Madrid. The hotel is next to the Colon Square, where Christopher Columbus's statue is.
