• Situated within the ancient walls of Jaisalmer Fort, the Hotel Monsoon Palace offers all the richness and atmosphere associated with the Rajasthan region of India. Formerly an ancestral home, and built in the local golden sandstone, the building is some 600 years old. In spite of its age, it retains many of its original details and decoration - and with this, considerable charm. The rooms are adorned with traditional Jaisalmeri and Rajasthani fabrics and textiles, adding to the sense of place. However, the hundreds of years of history do not come at the expense of your comfort and both rooms have air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. Due to its size, staff are particularly attentive and pride themselves on their warm hospitality.

• There are two double rooms in the Hotel Monsoon Palace, both with en-suite Western-style bathrooms and air conditioning. Decoration is a wonderful mixture of local crafts and wrought-iron furniture, while the walls are left bare to show the ancient brickwork. On top of the hotel is a charming and intimate terrace giving a 180-degree view of the city that surrounds the Fort – the perfect place to watch the sunset.

• The magnificent Jaisalmer Fort sits on a hill above the city, on the edge of the Thar Desert. Within its walls are Jain temples, statues and historic havelis (merchants’ houses), as well as modern shops and restaurants. The hotel can arrange guided tours in Jaisalmer itself, as well as excursions outside the city, such as a camel safari into the desert. Other attractions include Gardisar Lake and Patwa-Ki Haveli (1 km) and the Sam and Khuri sand dunes (about a 40-minute drive). Jaisalmer Airport is 5 km away, while Delhi and Jodhpur can be reached by train.
