• The Commune by the Great Wall Kempinski is unlike any other hotel in the world –a private collection of contemporary architecture designed by 12 Asian architects... an elevated architectural and cultural experience. The Commune could be best described not as a hotel but as a museum of avant-guard architecture. It offers an incomparable setting in the Shuiguan Valley and a unique private access to an unrehabilitated part of the Great Wall. The site has developed in two separate phases: the original Walnut Valley –and mecca for architectural tourists– that opened in 2002 with eleven villas. The collaboration with Kempinski in 2006 has added the Stone Valley phase with thirty-one new villas, the Children's Commune (a kid's club), Spa and fitness centre –all in the same experimental spirit as the rest of the Commune.

• The villas range in size from just four to six bedrooms each and are dispersed along the steep slope of the serene valley. A multi-purpose Club House houses the bulk of the Commune's facilities including the courtyard restaurant, a conference centre, a terrace and lounge, fitness centre, art gallery and cinema as well as a library –contemporary spaces that represent the absolute height of modern architecture and luxurious hospitality. Finally, the Anantara Spa, with it's 15 luxurious treatment rooms, provides a great selection of massages and beauty treatments.
