• Hidden away in the midst of the idyllic wooded hills of the Perche, the Château de la Barre is an authentic jewel that invites guests to be immersed in ancient grandeur and timeless memorabilia. For centuries, its parkland has protected it from all noise and disturbance, and it now emerges as a historical haven. Today, the Count and Countess de Vanssay, whose family have been in the same location since 1421, are considered to be pioneers in château bed and breakfast. They have expertly created a place where guests can relax in the atmosphere of a private home.

• Magnificent and unashamedly luxurious, the en suite guest rooms are gilded with sumptuous fabrics and fine antiques, without compromising on contemporary comforts. The living room, vestibule, and small dining room are adorned with portraits of various family ancestors and luscious fabrics and rival with elegance, and almost eloquence, the great Dining Room. This is a veritable masterpiece of the 18th century, complete with a monumental dresser and exquisite china collection. Guests can dine at the same table as the owners, sharing the family meal as well as the dynamic and witty ambience.
  The Fireplace Room is a place where lords and servants alike would gather around the vast fireplace. A symbol of warmth and sharing, this room has now become the 'Games Room'. Guests can play billiards there whilst enjoying a warming glass of cognac. Three fabulous golf courses surround the Chateau and lovers of all equestrian will discover a riding school and the beautiful forest of Vibraye.
  

• The Perche is a pastoral area consisting mainly of gently rolling farmland that is blessed with some beautiful forests. The Chateau de la Barre is located 180km southwest of Paris, 45 km from Le Mans and 4km from the town of St. Calais. The closest airport is in Tours, which is about 30 minute's drive.
